Wabi Sabi

This image was on a contact sheet of photos I had taken. I showed the sheet to a mentor I admired, and he picked this one. I was pleasantly surprised.

 

Late afternoon, kids hanging out. They all wanted their picture taken. After a while, they forgot about me and seemed to retreat into themselves.

This has always been one of my favorites because I feel a tension in the composition, a wabi sabi moment, imperfect, fleeting... free of artifice
