I wasn't sure if the lamb was ill, had been abandoned, or if I just happened to have interrupted its mother's normal pace of life.

My immediate thought: capture the moment and get out of the way so that life could resume.

Making it to adulthood isn't a given in this environment: the weather and predators are daily challenges.

Rooting for the innocent becomes its own constant preoccupation.
